You Give A Dummy An Inch...

The Arizona shooting is sad and unfortunate on so many
levels. For this reason, I consciously decided that I would
not write about it. The insanity of some people is just too much to bear. So is the neglectful reporting of the news media. Aside from the sadness of it all, my conscious decision to write about everything but the shooting in Arizona stems from the reality that, in essence, innocent people are shot and murdered every day.

Inner cities are filled with unsolved, unreported murders that continuously go unnoticed by the general public. People are murdered in cold blood all of the time without so much as a well wish from local or national media reporters. I did not want to appear insensitive by comparing the media coverage of the Arizona shooting to a lack of media coverage for other tragedies in America. I also did not want to draw too much attention to the fact that the shooting in Arizona has diverted our attention from other news that deserves more of our attention and concern.* I truly care about the tragic shooting in Arizona and those affected by it; yet, it would be very difficult for me to write solely about the Arizona shooting without recognizing the obvious. So with that being said, I will not go into detail about the actual incident in Arizona. However, since Sarah Palin decided to release the video "America's Enduring Strength", I decided that I might as well voice my opinion. With respect to the victims of the Arizona shooting, I must expose Palin for her insincere attempt at sincerity.

After watching this video, which is  supposed to address the devestating shooting in Arizona, I decided that Sarah Palin must be America's favorite idiot. That is the only thing that could explain our tolerance of her ignorance for this long.

Mz.Jonezy was going to stay silent about the good Bishop but....

When the media went abuzz about the Bishop Eddie Long allegations, Mz.Jonezy remained mute. I mean, I blog about many things pertaining to the black and brown communities but for some reason, when Eddie Long became topic of conversation, I decided to zip my blogging lips. Even today, as I type this post, I will remain silent on the intricacies of the Bishop Eddie Long allegations.  No one but the Bishop and his boys knows the real truth of this situation. I don't know anything about the good Bishop's sex life and I'm willing to bet that you don't either. However, amid the whirlwind of allegations, insults, and media coverage about Bishop Long and his boys, I'd venture to believe that the following billboard was not (and I repeat , NOT) a good idea.
Bishop Eddie Long Billboard
The billboard reads "Love, Live, Lead Like Him" which I assume is supposed to be referring the good Bishop's Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Be this as it may, the only image on the billboard is that of Bishop Long and many people are finding this to be a very odd subliminal message to relay.
I am very interested to know why Bishop Long chose to have this billboard posted, especially at a time like this. The man is being accused of cheating on his wife with young boys, which would make him nothing more than an adulterous, homosexual pedophile.  While being a homosexual is more or less not such a big deal, being a pedophile is...especially since Bishop Long is a proposed man of God who has built his kingdom as one that frowns upon and rebukes those who perform the same acts of which he is being accused. (and, not to mention, having sex with minors is just wrong. Like, really, really wrong)
I believe that I must end this post here because I do not want to make the mistake of "passing judgment" on the good ole' Bishop. But before I go I must say this----Bishop, this is not looking good my friend...not at all....

How do you feel about the billboard? Leave me a message and let me know what you think!

Ideas about god...

There are a lot of things that absolutely baffle me about the ‘god concept’. Notwithstanding the idea of the Christian Church (or the Orthodox Muslim masjiid, or anywhere else where members of religious factions worship) which I find pretty bizarre but can respect none the less, the concept of ‘god ‘is just weird and illogical.

Top 10 Reasons Why I Do Not Go To Church

Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about religion. Perhaps my current mind state can be attributed to the overabundance of bible quotes posted on Facebook or Florida Evans’ continual reverence to the Lord when addressing her family’s financial woes (yes, I am a die-hard Good Times fan). Whatever the reason, religion has been very heavy on my mind lately.

In my lifetime I have been asked about my personal relationship with god and/or my local church more times than I care to remember. It is usually assumed that a person, particularly a black person who was raised in the, ‘hood’, is a Christian. At the point in which said person declares, ‘no, I am not Christian’, the next assumption arises; ‘oh, so you a Muslim?’

As a person who falls in the category of ‘neither Christian nor Muslim’, you can just about imagine society’s uncomfortable relationship with me (read: I must be a weirdo).

How can a person not be a Christian or a Muslim?!?!?! This can’t be!

Wait, they must be Jewish…
            No.
Buddhist?
            Nope.
A Scientologist?
            No.
Well then what are you?!
Hello, I am non-religious, nice to meet you.

Such has been my life. Now, for all of you who love the Lord and find that church is just about the only place to worship him, you may not want to read any further…unless you have an open mind and a sense of humor.

On to my top 10…

Reason #10:
Church is not interesting to me. Actually, it is quite (dare I say) boring….

Reason #9:
I’m broke and church is not free. I cannot afford to put money in any of the brass/wicker/plastic bowls, which are usually circulated at least 3 times around the church in a matter of 1 hour. I can’t do it, I’m hungry and my gas tank is on ‘E’...

Reason #8:
I am cool with me. Also, I am cool with my family. There are enough of us and our craziness therefore I DO NOT NEED an extended church family to irk me and be all up in my business, in the name of the lord. No thank you…

Reason #7
I like to chill on Sundays and churches are not exactly what I would like to call ‘chill spots’…

Reason #6
            I ask too many questions and, if I am not mistaken, the #1 unwritten church rule is: do not EVER ask questions in church before, during, or after Pastor’s sermon unless;
a) you are asking about the health of somebody’s momma,
b) you are asking an excessively hyper child if he/she would like to get slapped into next week (in the name of Jesus), or
c) you are asking the usher for a pen so that you can sign your offering check…

Reason #5
            I can’t sit still for more than 20 minutes…

Reason #4:
A church is merely a building; a building that does not take precedence over my bed on a Sunday morning…

Reason # 3:
Very large crucifixes scare me (small ones are quite bizarre as well)...

Reason #2:
I do not know church protocol. I don’t know when to sing, when to clap, when to pray, when to stand, when to sit, or what to say while the preacher is taking a breath between words. Is there some kind of church etiquette book that I should be aware of?

AND FOR THE #1 REASON THAT I DO NOT GO TO CHURCH….

IT IS TOO LOUD!!! Churches are full of people who cannot sing but who sing anyway. Why would I want to voluntarily sit in a building and listen to people who cannot sing? Furthermore, church sound systems are terrible. Just terrible. And to make up for the terrible-ness of their sound systems, they put them on full blast as if that is going to make them sound any better. No, that just gives me a headache and makes my eyes twitch.
