The Legal Black Employees Network holds one of the oldest and most prevalent Black History Month events in the state of Delaware. Every February you can expect the Legal Black Employees Network to create a wonderful event in commemoration of the great works and influence of African Americans. Tuesday’s event is particularly special, as its focus is specifically on African American women. The Legal Black Employees Network could not have chosen a better woman than Ms. Phylicia Rashad as the keynote speaker for their event.
The 2 hour event will begin at 9 a.m. with Governor Jack Markell as the opening speaker. Ms. Rashad’s speech is set to last about 45 minutes and will cover many topics such as the Black American experience, black women on film and Broadway, and the overall influence of black women in America. Immediately following Ms. Rashad’s speech there will be a question and answer period for students and other attendees to delve further into Ms. Rashad’s wealth of knowledge.
Black History Month is often left to the tattered stories of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the civil rights movement. Rarely are we able to see a black living legend and be granted the opportunity to speak with them about history and their experience as a person of color in America. Much respect is given to the Legal Black Employees Network for bringing this event to Wilmington, Delaware.
This event is focuses on students but is open to the public. If you are available on Tuesday February 15th at 9 a.m., stop by Hotel DuPont at 1007 N. Market Street for a morning of enlightenment. Free to the public.
