Sweet T's on Kirkwood Highway...Pleasantly Surprised!

After yesterday's Downtown Wilmington Art Loop (more to come about that in a later post), a few friends and I went out to eat at a relatively new restaurant that I had no clue even existed...Sweet T's on Kirkwood Highway.

At first glance, I thought Sweet T's was a Japanese spot, since I vaguely remember a sushi bar being somewhere in that vicinity. But once we entered the parking lot, I saw a few people inside and realized that it was a homestyle sports bar, not a place for Japanese cuisine.

I had no idea what to expect as I walked inside the building and was shocked to hear Musiq Soulchild's voice flowing through the speakers. As I stood in the doorway feeling out the vibes, a fan blew my skirt in circles and Musiq's voice faded away. Immediately after Musiq came John Legend, and I knew that if nothing else, the music was nice so I must have been in the right spot.

We sat down and checked out the menu. While not full of extravagant and exotic dishes, the menu was satisfying and complete. As a vegetarian who indulges in seafood, sides, and most meat-less finger foods, I found the menu just as pleasing as any TGI Fridays or Applebees. Sweet T's had mozzarella sticks, sweet potato fries, french and old bay fries, shrimp by the dozen, grilled salmon, crab cakes, crab legs, mac and cheese, candied yams, corn on the cob, cheesy mashed potatoes, and caesar salad**. And of course, since they are a sports bar, they had drinks galore. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered a side of cheesy mashed potatoes while my significant other ordered grilled salmon with corn on the cob and candied yams.

We had drinks while we waited for our food which were delicious (and affordable--the long island iced tea was $5) and socialized. The vibe in Sweet T's was nice which makes it a great place for friends to chill and have fun. Once the food arrived, it looked simple and tasted DELICIOUS! My cheesy mashed potatoes were hearty and oh so good! I tasted the candied yams which were sweet and yummy and the salmon was very flavorful. All food was courtesy of Sweet T (Tiffany) herself, who cooked each of our meals. I was truly pleasantly surprised.

Overall, Sweet T's is a fantastic cozy place for friends and family to go for good food, good drinks and a good time. Tiffany told us that they have open mic nights and a live band. I cannot remember the specifics so click the links below for their website and Facebook page if you would like more information.

**All of the veggies were cooked in meat so I didn't really pay them any attention...but they are cooked in TURKEY not pork so its a safe haven for anti-pork meat eaters
