January 1, 2010-Happy New Year!
February 9, 2010- Just how happy is this ‘new year’?
When 2010 came, I was excited and ready to start a new beginning. I claimed this year as mine, and, much like many other well-wishers, I decided that I would make this year better than the last.
Then an earthquake hit Haiti.
Hundreds of thousands have died. Without proper medical care, clean water and food, thousands more are sure to die in the aftermath of this quake. Although the earthquake was more than 4 weeks ago today, Haiti is far from the end of mourning the death of its earthquake-effected family members. Ironically enough, untimely death has become their way of life. This is 2010.
Then it snowed.
Major snow accumulations have paralyzed parts of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Our storm hit February 5th and 6th, interrupting our lives with over 2 feet of snow . We haven’t seen snow like this in years. And then…We find out that another storm will hit our area today into Wednesday with accumulations somewhere between 18-24 inches. We have yet to recover from the first snow storm and now here comes another, ready to completely bury us in a snowy abyss. If we are hit with the amount of snow that the National Weather Service is predicting, this will be the worst winter in the history of forever for this area. History-making snow accumulations, much like the history-making earthquake in Haiti. Welcome to 2010. I am scared of what March will bring.
Something is not right about any of what has happened so far in 2010. I cannot quite put my finger on it but I feel like the year 2010 will possibly be a major force to be reckoned with. We might be coming up against a battle that we cannot win.
Please don’t take this post as a prediction that the world is going to end. Even though everything is a possible conspiracy to me, I am not going to theorize that the world will end this year or in 2012 like our great Mayan ancestors have predicted. Instead, I am going to take things as they come and speak on events rather than speculation. Thus far, what has happened in 2010 has not been good. If this is what I have to look forward to, I’d rather go right back to 2009 and relive the great times that we had then. At least I wasn’t buried alive in snow while crying about death tolls in Haiti…
There is a saying that goes something like, “what goes up, must come down.” Do you think that perhaps we have reached the ‘up’ and now its time for us to come’ ‘down’? Hmmmm… What do you think?

As I prepare to comment on yet another insightful piece written by you I am watching news reports about a massive snow storm in the deep south. Yesterday Dallas, Texas received a foot of the white stuff. This is so rare that the municipalities that were effected do not even have salt nor plows. Good read to get some insight on this climate change is a book titled The Coming Global Superstorm
